Portrait of an Academic Mom

This evening as I sat on the sofa writing what will be some of the final pages of my dissertation, my 2-year-old daughter, who had, a little while before, put on the DVD of The Empire Strikes Back, climbed into my lap, leaned her head on my shoulder, and fell asleep between my iBook and I as I continued to type. :)

my current academic mother stance is balancing a copy of the Resisting Reader on my belly.

It was soooooo sweet! Especially since this daughter is usually trying to co-opt my computer so that she can type letters in (hopefully blank) Word documents!

When I was pregnant for my 2-year-old was when I realized that I would have to get a stand for my laptop. I swear she kicked it!! And my 5-month-old daughter certainly kicked her sister while in utero, in response to being elbowed! :)

These are the moments that make me glad that I'm doing things the way I am.
