What Kind of Catholic Am I?

O.K., so this isn't too surprising. Actually, it may be surprising to some who are more conservative and traditionalist than I am. But come on. . . You answer a couple of questions about liking Gregorian Chant and suddenly they're assuming that you challenge Vatican II? Clearly, the person who wrote this quiz has been reading too many blogs! ;)

You scored as Traditional Catholic. You look at the great piety
and holiness of the Church before the Second Vatican Council and
the decay of belief and practice since then, and see that much of the
decline is due to failed reforms based on the "Spirit of the Council".
You regret the loss of vast numbers of Religious and Ordained clergy
and the widely diverging celebrations of the Mass of Pope Paul VI,
which often don't even seem to be Catholic anymore. You are helping
to rebuild this past culture in one of the many new Traditional Latin
Mass communities or attend Eastern Catholic Divine Liturgy. You
seek refuge from the world of pornography, recreational drugs,
violence, and materialism. You are an articulate, confident, committed,
and intelligent Catholic.

But do you support legitimate reform of the Church, and are you willing
to submit to the directives of the Second Vatican Council? Will you
cooperate responsibly with others who are not part of the Traditional
community?

I scored 67% Trad and 60% New. Those were my highest scores! I didn't like some of the questions "The Church needs to retain the celibate, male priesthood." Well, I'd be ok with them allowing priests to marry but it's obvious the priesthood should stay male.

I do wonder what a "New Catholic" is.

I also wondered what the difference was between "radical" and "liberal," then I went back and randomly clicked the buttons and then pressed "submit," and it came up "radical"--in the Latin sense, it says. Devoted to poverty, not mindful of superiors, knowing the will of God without direction (and yet, still Catholic). So basically, St. Francis would have been a radical. It warns this type of person not to be too hasty in declaring oneself a saint!

The other categories, I think I understand. Wow! So I got an 80% trad and you got 67%? I suppose I answered more strongly on some things. Interesting types of questions. No social stuff, for example. It's mainly liturgical & prayer. I'm definitely a traditionalist when it comes to liturgy, though certainly less so than some others!!

Surprise! I scored 60% liberal Catholic which supposedly means that I want to apply democratic principles to the Church and that I want priests to get married - whether they're female or male. I'm also supposedly a champion of Vatican II. Interesting... the only statement I agreed with 100% was that I put the social justice mission of the Church to the forefront.

You're right; the creator of this quiz has been reading too many blogs. It was interesting to see, though, the different "types" of Catholics that are out there.

There are, of course, those who maintain that all of these categories are arbitrary designations that Catholics have taken to themselves to justify their own feelings about one or another "issue" pertaining to Church teaching, liturgy, "reform" (past, present, or future), catechesis, etc. One Bread, one Body, right? (You know, there are people online who hate that song & the guy who wrote it. I'm not that traditionalist!)
